BELZBERG ARCHITECTS’ HAWAII
Their headquarters are in Santa Monica, but they’ve recently developed a masterpiece on one Hawaiian island. Their name is Belzberg Architects and in 2010 they finished building their latest creation, the Kona Residence, which has already won Interior Design Magazine’s Freestanding Award.
The tropical jewel is surrounded by solidified lava and celebrates the eternal union between nature and architecture: every living space is fully independent, inclusive of all optionals and developed to suit the needs of two guests. Communal areas are all located outside, facing both the lava mountains and the ocean.
Many details take inspiration from local tradition, such as the pavilions, the abstract sculptures and the property’s less contemporary elements.
Kona Residence’s plus points: the whole structure is ecofriendly, gets its energy from solar panels, swimming pools are heated by lava rocks and the water system uses rainwater.
Next time you’re passing by Magnum PI’s tropical playground, don’t forget at least to stop for a cocktail at this dream-like ecofriendly residence. In the meanwhile, check it out in our gallery.
