Pagani : the Huayra Modenese supercar
The legends starts from the name, Pagani Huayra “hypercar” was named after the God of the wind, Wayra Tata, which means “God of the winds” in Quechua, the official language of the Inca Empire. According to the legend, the powerful God could raise lake Titicaca waters-the highest navigable on the planet- to transform them into rain. The artisanal jewel on 4 wheels get inspiration from the air and inherits the prestigious heredity of the Zonda R, becoming the characteristic element of the Pagani.
We are not in front of the usual supercar, as you may expect from the price. More than a million of euros – 1.056.000 starting price, precisely – like the LaFerrari and McLaren P1, the Huayra is a car for few lucky drivers. However, impossible not to match the price for such bolide : the monocoque realized in carbo-titanium, to begin with, is characterize by gull-wing doors and like a real “supermodel” of the road, the Huayra weight only 1.350 chilogrammi ( about 2,976 pounds ), which makes this the lightest car for the market segment .
Looking at this car once is enough to remember it , but to really fall in love you may want to check the heart: a twin-turbocharged V12 engine 5980 cc especially developed by Mercedes AMG. The engine produces 730 metric horsepower with 738 lb-ft of torque to go along with it. The two radiators guarantee the best refrigeration efficiency and have been tested in the Death Valley under 50 Celsius degrees. With 22 gallons tank capacity, the fuel reaches the engine with two power pumps. To further increase the demand for fuel efficiency the system is controlled by a microprocessor on each pump, releasing the required amount from the engine control at any particular time, therefore avoiding wastes and increasing travel autonomy.
Exclusivity has a number – again – not only moneywise, because the brand makes no more than twenty exemplars per year, but as usual, including optional will increase the total cost of the car. To give an idea: 14,950 EUR for the seven-piece luggage set, 4,900 EUR for a rearview camera and 1,500 EUR for rear parking sensors.
The new variant – the Huayra BC – will be presented at the Geneva International Motor Show from March 3rd until March 16th 2016. Still top secret, but the anticipation speaks of a generous oversized rear wing. Pagani has something enticing in store, starting with the two latters “BC” : we can hardly wait to get surprised.
