Progressive aesthetics and common visions. Imagining the new Valentino Men’s collection Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were inspired by moments of artistic movements, presented in a splendid, contemporary combination of different creative experiences. The starting point for Valentino’s diverse show was the 1920s’ Ballets Russes, famous artistic Russian movements whose founder Sergei Diaghilev worked with the greatest artists of the time, including Picasso and Bakst, then it moves towards naturalism, to geometric motifs by Australian artist Esther Stewart. The silhouettes are sharp, and essential garments of the male wardrobe have undergone a transformation, blending embellishment and practicality: oversized PVC zippers close long straight coats, pockets in a contrasting shade work as color blocks. Micro and macro geometric patterns, patchwork and inlays: in double cashmere for Haute Couture Coats or tactile for Shetland knits. And militaristic Camouflage inlays. Slim-fit jackets with high bottom stance, cigarette trousers worn with sturdy lace-up shoes or nude-colored sneakers with bands in a contrasting shade. The macro geometric motifs come back throughout the collection on slim-fit parkas, sweaters, capes and blouson.
